MUSCAT, March 12 - The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is all set to launch a number of projects as part of the government programme to promote public-private partnership.
According to a ministry statement, initially three projects will be launched at prime locations in the capital Muscat.
“A preliminary study has already been conducted. Investment details will officially be announced in April,” it said.
According to the ministry, the areas for development are located at Al Khuwair with 14,588 square metres of land, old Oman International Exhibition Centre at Airport Heights, which is spread over an area of 1,27,224 square metres and Ghala Heights with an area of 13,267 square metres.
“The projects, being launched in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance (MoF), stem from the government’s plan to strengthen the partnership between the public and private sectors to promote tourism and real estate activity in the country,” said the statement.
It said a study of government land was conducted in all governorates in coordination with the MoF to identify their suitability for investments.
“The land will be offered to investors on long-term usufruct agreements for suitable development projects,” said the statement.
The developments at the Airport Heights include a building for the headquarters of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, housing and office units, a separate medium-sized building for conferences, a 4-star hotel and apartments, health club and a commercial complex.
The developments also include a 600-metre-long shaded walkway interspersed with office and residential buildings, with restaurants and cafes located on the ground floor.
“This will provide an upscale environment and a unique experience for business, shopping and entertainment,” added the statement.
The components of the other two locations and sites (Al Khuwair and Ghala) will be mixed-use: residential, commercial and office.
